I think you underestimate how much money is out there and what people are willing to spend for their emblem.

For instance, BYU just got the Number 1 basketball recruit in the country, supposedly north of $5M, who is paying that?

Genuine question: why hasn’t the Arkansas money already bought a real college football team? Seems like something Jerruh would do without thinking twice.

Boone Pickens gave hundreds of millions of dollars to Okie State. He had one Big 12 title to show for it.

Sure, but that was before the NIL era.

Now that players are paid openly what's to prevent a bunch of Harvard or Princeton grads from amassing an enormous NIL fund and bringing in top, top players?

I would guess it's that the rich Ivy alumni don't identify with their football teams the same way rich SEC alumni do.

Is Alabama a university with a football team or a football team with a university?

No but it’s all relative. When you couldn’t pay players you just built a football practice facility with a water slide in the facility. Teams spent the money on what they were allowed to. Okie State had as much money as any team to spend on what everyone else spent on. They won a single big 12 title.

Every major college team has money. Like I said, A&M has been talking about how much they have since Christ was a corporal. They haven’t won shit since Eisenhower was in the White House.

THAT is what a comedian should be. Speaking truth to power without fear with a point that is so true that everyone has to agree, even if begrudgingly. That's everything the comedians who are overly embraced by the general public could never be.

Like are you saying that because a state like Louisiana is one of the poorer states they can’t compete in the NIL era? Like do you think they are going to Hillbilly Jim in Covington Louisiana and asking him for money? Like is that what you think?

LSU enrolls 40k kids annually, all they need is .0001% of those kids to strike it rich. Doesn’t even factor in the non graduate boosters, people who sent their kids there, etc.

NIL doesn’t work by collecting a nickel here and a dime there, NIL works by getting your richest 50 boosters to throw money at the team. LSU probably more than one booster that owns about 500MM worth of pipeline assets. They will be happy to throw 10 MM at the Tigers football team annually.

Like I said. Every team, EVERY TEAM, thinks they have the most money. They all have the same money. Just like they all had the same money when they built Star Wars practice facilities. LSU is no better or worse off in the NIL era than in any previous era. Louisiana, and South Carolina, and Alabama have been just as poor states in 2025 as they were in 1980. It didn’t matter because they aren’t funding the athletic program based on collecting a quarter from every citizen in the state. Alabama funds its team from probably 40 dudes who have more money that you can imagine that own businesses that you’ve never heard of that probably have a FMV of a billion dollars.

The SEC isn’t fucked, because if being from a poor state was an issue, Alabama wouldn’t have 15 national titles or whatever they have.

You don't have to go that extreme. Northwestern is sitting there right at your front door.

They certainly have spent/are spending on athletics. I wonder if they are going to waste all that money on the wrapping but spend nothing on the present.

There is no path to success for NU in Big Ten football without a huge infusion of talent. The try hard Cats of the Fitz era now can only hope for 6-6 AT BEST in this loaded conference.

We know NU has the ability to raise funds. The question is whether they will make the determination that a great QB is more important than a great humanities scholar

Arkansas is very far from poor, Walton Money, Tyson Foods Money, Hudson Foods Money, Jerry Jones Money, J.B Hunt Money, etc all spend very well. I am not sure any school wins more National Championships than they do in men’s and women’s athletics.

Yeah their basketball program has the largest NIL fund in the country and that was just done with a bit of Tyson money. They haven't even hit up the Waltons yet, but I'm sure they will for the football program whenever they decide to move on from Sam Pittman. The university already gets tons of Walton money, but it is usually for academics. Their name is on the business school for a reason.

So an article of the AD at a University asking for more NIL dollars proves he’s right? Funny, I see every AD across the country doing the same thing.

No, I was just bitching about Alabama and Ole Miss fans crying for not being in the playoffs, nice try though.

NW has the funds to spend. Well, they have one guy that treats them as the sports team he owns and plasters his name everywhere.

Their problem is the academic side hates letting them take transfers though it may have changed somewhat this year as they seem to be doing some of it.
