There's 5 playoff teams below them so...
But when this is pointed out to such "esteemed" CFMB posters as Caddyshack, this is what he provides as a counter with his dumbass

Aw, Radio, the fact that you've been allowed to think you're an authority on anything is touching, it truly is. But here are some other categories and how close the Bears are to the bottom of the league:
Yards/Play (tied 2nd-worst), Net Passing Yards per Attempt (tied 2nd-worst), Rushing Yards per Attempt (tied 6th-worst). They are the epitome of a "bend, don't break" defense: Not giving up TDs in bunches but woefully ineffective at stifling opposing offenses. This affects clock management, and the number of offensive possessions.
Nothing I said there is wrong. The "Bend, don't break" defensive principle means they allow teams to march up and down the field but tend to force them to settle for fewer points in the Red Zone. Those long sustained drives affect clock management because opposing offenses are given 5+ minutes of game clock to burn every time they get the ball.
They also got the brakes beaten off them 3 out of the last 4 weeks. That's not "playoff caliber".
Placing yardage over avg ppg as a"metric" for assessing the effectiveness of a defense is utterly stupid.
Particularly so given the fact that each and every team ahead of the Bears was a playoff team. As were quite a few teams below the Bears at the time.
The Bears very "above average defense" gave them a chance to be a "playoff team" this season. Their extremely putrid offense did not.
And the extrapolation of a few games "here and there" only further weakens what was on its face a rather stupid argument. At the time you were whining about the Bears extremely "above average" defense, they'd only given up more than 21 points once I believe.

Nice try. Won't work. You were bashing the Bears "above average" defense long before the previous 4 games occurred.
