It could happen. And Lovie has obviously worked with Martz in St. Louis. However, the Bears really don;t have the same weapons that the Rams did back in the Greatest Show on Turf days, but nothing a year or two couldn't fix.

I doubt they get rid of Ron Turner, and I doubt all three of those guys would want to work with each other in the capacity that you suggest. Lovie likes his job security and there's no way he's OK with having not one but two guys gunning for his job.

Cleveland would be smart to give Martz a call. They have the weapons in place and a young quarterback to groom. It's the type of team that could go back and win 10 next year. Lewis is not exactly a Martz type of back, but that could be easily resolved in the draft.

I have no idea why people like Mike Martz so much. Dick Vermeil was the creator of "the greatest show on turf", Martz was just there at the right time. He won't be able to fix the Bears because he couldn't fix the Lions or the 49ers.

Then again what do I know...I was a Rex fan.

Ron Turner is going nowhere.

Very good point. Martz has done nothing since he left Vermeil's side.

That's about the amount of time he's lasted on his previous jobs.

lol... it's like fantasy football for meat heads.

WHO did Marinelli develop on the D-line down in Tampa? Was it first rounder Warren Sapp? First rounder Booger McFarland, or sack guru Simeon Rice? You get my point? A chimp could 'teach' those guys technique. Especially when they have the likes of Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and John Lynch making sure the defensive backfield is covered.

So here's your meatball strategy:

FIRE Ron Turner because he's done such a shitty job with the lowest paid offense in the NFL devoid of legit NFL WRs.

Hire Mike Martz.

Sign Kurt Warner to a free agent contract.

Trade Tommie Harris or Brian Urlacher and our first round draft pick for Anquan Boldin, and promptly give him a new deal, because he's unhappy with his current contract that expires in 2010 (because he's making 25% of the amount that Larry Fitzgerald is making).

Problems fixed.

Why does Martz keep finding work? When is the last time he coached or coordinated a great offense?

After 2002 they were exciting? I remember Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk completely carrying that guys reputation. As soon as Bulger took over they werent good on offense anymore, although IIRC they did have one last very good year with him mostly due to their defense, which is how Lovie became a hot commodity that year.

With the 49ers and Lions, and even with the Rams that last season or two his offenses have ranged from pathetic to mediocre.

So two consecutive superbowl appearances doesn't qualify to you as a great offense? Who cares who carried them? Did Phil Jackson coach a great offensive team? yes he did. Several of them in fact.
So less than 7 years ago he was in the superbowl for the 2nd time. that's coaching a great offense. You asked.

Well obviously we both knew he coached a great offense with the Rams when they went to those two SBs. My main point, and it was a semi-rhetorical question, was he had the benefit of having some of the best offensive personell in place in modern history, and has shown since then that he is neither innovative nor a "genuis" like some labeled him as when he left. Hes simply not a good coordinator, and I think his recent stints have shown that.

Come on FF. With your comment you're implying that this man can't coach. What it shows me is that he's enough of a coach that when playing decent players, he can use them properly and get them there. You really think that Warner is one of the best offensive personell in modern history????? I'll say good but I'm not ready to give him that yet. No, that team was well coached. The talent he had there was not unrecognized or underutilized.
As a Lions O-Co he won 7 games with the same basic team that went winless the following year.
This year the 49ers won 7 games after winning only 5 last year. I wouldn't say he CAN'T coach.

Let's not confuse modern day knowledge with retention of obscure facts from the late 80s/early 90s. Hell, those were the good ole "stumbling drunk, blacked out, and I don't remember what I did last night" days. Parenthood has put a damper on those good ole days.

I guess we just disagree, and view his resume differently. I think Warner in his MVP years was one of the best QBs in the league, Faulk overall was the best player, and they had a terrific line and very good WRs. Once Vermeil left that Rams team wasnt the same, despite getting back to the SB. He was incredibly outcoached by Belichick in the SB. Once Lovie left, the defense went downhill fast as did the team because they clearly werent the same team offensively. Also from alot that I have read, the 49ers turnaround had much more to do with Singletary doing a great job instilling discipline in that locker room and getting the most out of guys than it did with Martz calling plays, although I didnt watch a single game and really wont pretend to know if he did a good job there, although 23rd in yards per game and 22nd in points per game doesnt really seem like the work of a great coordinator. I just think hes always been very overrated, and his Lions teams were not good at all offensively.

Statistically speaking, for two years, Kurt Warner was the best quarterback IN THE HISTORY of the NFL.

Then Boers and Bernstein had High Priestess Miriam put that voodoo curse on him.

I liked Martz when he was coaching the Rams...my only gripe with him was his rediclous use of the challenge...he'd throw the flag sometimes when it meant the difference between a few yards when they were still 5 or 6 yards shy of a first down...

While I do see Rod Marinelli joining Lovie's staff as possibly Bob Babich's replacement as Defensive Coordinator, I can't say the same about the Steve Dahl & Roger Ebert-looking Mike Martz replacing Ron Turner as Offensive Coordinator. The only way I'd see it happening as if Martz really thinks Devin Hester is the second coming of Isaac Bruce when he was in St. Louis...I don't see that happening either. :(
