You sure it adds up fine? What about the 22 mil at the end of the deal? One of the things I have heard is he will not waive the no clause unless a team says they will take on that last year option.

If the Cubs did this, you would be the first one on here bitching about how they are taking on bad money again.

Wrong, but nice try.

I was listening to the Cubs' flagship, Newstalk 720 WGN, during a rain delay when the Padres visited Wrigley Field one day last week. Jim Memolo talked to his former WGN Radio teammate Andy Masur, now the radio voice of the Padres, and during the rain delay he felt Peavy would get dealt at some point. Now, Masur isn't so sure that Peavy's coming to the American League, and he's on right now with Zach Zaidman on the SCORE pinch hitting for Mike Murphy...

I don't know that on May 21, that preference has eroded very much. From our point of view we may say, 'Let's give (the Padres) more time and see if a National League team might step up over the next six weeks.'

I obviously hope Peavy approves the trade but if he doesn't Kenny will go out and make another trade. Kenny's not giving up on the season and contrary to what the 'experts' say this shows he's able to take on payroll and trade his top prospects.

The SCORE's David Schuster feels that Jake Peavy will NOT approve the proposed deal in which Aaron Poreda, Clay Richard & 2 unknowns would go to San Diego in exchange for Peavy. The ball's starting to fly out of U.S. Cellular Field if the last 2 games mean anything, but Schuster does believe that Peavy will eventually get dealt, likely to another National League team.

Peavy may be running out of teams to go to if he doesn't approve the deal.

The grass would be certainly greener than in SD with a decent chance to win over the course of his contract, and afford Peavy the chance as a competitor to prove he isn't just a product of Petco park. The DH may help him as it allows pitchers to stay in the game longer for more opportunities at wins, and a 1-2-3 of Buerhles- Peavy- Danks would be very competitive with anyone.

Cant blame KW for trying...

The latest snag in the rumored Peavy deal...If you read between the lines, it's that $22 million option come 2013 and whether Uncle Jerry and the White Sox would be willing to pay it.

I don't expect Williams to attempt another big trade if he can't land Peavy. He might as well give up on '09 if doesn't and start dealing away the pieces.

If the Padres pick up $5M of the 2013 option, and the Sox buy him out for $4M, if Peavy can command more than $13M four years from now and come out ahead. He should still be in his prime.

I actually think it's a fair contract for a front-line pitcher; now whether or not you think he's a frontline pitcher is another matter entirely.

Chris, that's why I don't think Jake Peavy's coming here... :( Even though Uncle Jerry runs the White Sox & Bulls differently, that's too much $$$$ over the long haul.

No. We all know that the deal is done. Don't worry about the money. That's all worked out.
This is about JP now.

That is what many Cub fans were saying this offseason, but most Sox fans I remember disagreed. Again, just funny how perspective changes when it is on the other side of town.

A guy called into the score this morning wanting to know what their "Baseball Expert" had to say about this trade now, because back in Feb it was a horrible trade and Peavy was washed up and blah blah blah. Well M&H cut the guy off right away and made some lame excuse about payroll. Well he will still cost the same on the south side right? Exactly.

Yeah it was exciting for the day but I'm glad we still have Richard. I think he's going to be a pretty good pitcher. And it would have really hurt the minor league system. Oh and I think he's a giant pussy for not agreeing to the trade because he wanted to stay in the NL. You know he'd accept the trade when he's dealt to the Cubs before the deadline so he doesn't have anything against Chicago. It would have been fun had the trade gone through though.

I heard a rumor that the Sox wouldn't pick up that option year of the contract right now.

Kenny seems to be adept at some big splash move....ignoring the gaping holes at 3B, CF, 2B, Lead off hitter...#2 hitter......

Kenny is attempting to make a move off the seat of his pants here.

Everyone would love Jake Peavy........but this damned team is swiss cheese.

He is right now electing to stay with the Padres, opting to ok a trade to a team that has a chance to win it all. Maybe the Ranger can explain what Jake's thoughts are.The Ranger knows nothing.

be glad it didnt happen. You do not want to be owing this guy 22 mil 4 yrs from now. He could be awful by then. I think the only way you pick up a guy like this is if he almost guarantees to put you over the top for a championship, that is it. You can be competitive for the division with young guys, you don't need to spend tens of millions just to be competitive. I think for a team like the sox, doing the moneyball thing is smart until your cheaper young guys get good good, but instead of dumping all your players and starting all over again, you go for it all. The sox should go and trade off some of their older guys and get brandon wood. That guy would rake at the cell like you wouldn't believe. He also plays good D at third or SS. You will learn to deal with the strikeouts when you see all the bombs he will hit.

David Price only has 12 major league strikeouts, but he probably sucks too.

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/ ... od-1.shtml

he is only 24 and has never really been given much of a chance to settle in and play consistently. He has 150 or so minor league hr's. I am sure there are many teams who would love to have him.
