Do you know what circular logic is?

yes. yes I do.

It was a veiled reference to a seinfeld line. my point is the reds suck and your diverting attention away from that increasingly evident reality.

How is my reasoning circular?

Hoping that the teams who present the biggest obstacles for qualifying for the playoffs lose is not circular logic or reasoning.

You're right. Its not circular logic. The Reds suck. Regardless of who Cub fans should or shouldnt be rooting for.

You are correct sir.....from Wikipedia

Quote:
His final season was in Cincinnati in 1996. His homecoming did not go as well as he had hoped. In July of that season, Sabo shattered his bat which was filled with cork. As a result of the incident, Sabo received a seven-game suspension.Sabo maintains that he had never corked a bat in his life. He claimed that the bat in question belonged to another player (whom he would not name). He argued that his performance that season (3HR in 52 games) was hardly "an endorsement of the cork industry."

So you let you're "weird, strange inexplicable desire to win the division" do away with any wild card considerations?

You've made it clear that Reds suck and Dusty can't produce a winner in Cincinnati. If that's true, why wouldn't you want them to beat the Phillies, a potential Cub competitor for the wildcard if the Cubs don't win the divsion?

NSJ, the team that has the potential to be the biggest threat to a post season is one within the division. i think it's probably safe to say that it's not likely to see the wild card decided in the Central. Therefore, I would consider any loss within the division to be my desired outcome. Now, were the Reds 5 games below the cubs and the cubs are 1.5 games below the Phils out of a wild card and the Reds are playing the Phils, then my rooting interests have changed due to the circumstances.

Though the pitching matchup doesn't favor the Reds tonight, it would be funny if the Reds could take 2 out of 3 after losing the first game 22-1. I don't mind seeing them lose by that margin if they end up winning the series.

The Phillies were busting up in the dugout while Reds second baseman Paul Janish gave up six runs in the 8th. A second loss to the Reds would wipe those smiles off their faces.

OK Nas, it's halfway thru the season and your man Willy Tavaras is falling WAY short of your expectations.
16 stolen bases, 40 runs scored (I believe you were predicting 100). A .288 OBP and a DREADFUL .301 SLG.
Do you still think this guy is gonna save the Reds?

What is the point of arguing with you....We all get it the Reds are awesome....Dusty Baker is a genius. It's the same thing all the time. They are going to finish in 4th and 5th and you will be here posting excuses about what happened. Why dont you go to post some at CINCINSFMB or at least bring some critical thoughts to your posts concerning the Big Red Machine.

PS......Reds Suck.

i do believe you're right, actually, lipid. and it's interesting to me that none of these idiot pundits have taken the cards in their predictions the last few years. everybody picks the cubs or the brewers. yet which team is always in the mix, and sometimes (like in this case), peeking at the top spot? the cardinals are, i don't know, something like the patriots. they're a machine. they never have the "on paper" talent or whatever but what they're doing works.

and it drives me nuts.

Hey NSJ... What are the writers out there saying about this team? Is the hometown still down with Baker or what's the consensus out there?

The media and the fans aren't particularly pleased.

-He's stubborn when it comes to playing non-productive veterans (e.g. Corey Patterson, Taveras)

-He overused Cueto, Harnang and Volquez in August and September when Reds were out of it.

-They question is in-game decision making

. . . so pretty much the same criticisms that he had in Chicago.

Unfortunately thats not true. Those losers were in it til 3 days left in the season. Even after Victor Diaz seemingly ended the season with a hr off Dempster...they had chance after chance that week and just blew every one of them

I remember them blowing a game in New York in the last week when they could've extended their lead in the wild card. I believe Sosa hit for the golden sombrero, and that was basically the beginning of the end of that season.

The sad part is that was only the beggining. The final week they kept getting breaks and failed to capitilize on them. The Lowlight was Prior going 9 Inn Striking out 16 and the Cubs losing 2-1 in 10, which brings us back to Dusty's suckitude in not believing the scouting reports and pitching to Valentin...

Fuck the 2004 Cubs.

To me its not even close...2003 shot me five times in the chest...2004 Put a bomb inside my body Super Mario style and blew me the fuck up, then deposited my remains into a trash compacter...then took those remains and tossed em into a fiery inferno.

Sosa...Mercker...Wood D.L....Prior D.L....The Colonol Glendon Rusch starting meaningful games. Hawkins...Rob Mackowiak...Pujols 3 Hrs etc

No. This current team is just bad. The moves they made did not improve the team at any position. I was pretty sure they would regress, and they have. I won't be shocked if they miss the playoffs this year, and I wouldn't be shocked if they made it in. They are not going anywhere and I have zero expectations. 2004 was just an epic fail of monumental proportions.
