Antonio Pierce was released by the Giants today. What if the Bears were to sign him and dangle Urlacher in some trade bait?

Apparently Pierce had a not so great year in '09, but maybe he can return to his pro bowl self.

I don't think it would be smart to trade Urlacher now. You won't get better than a 3rd or 4th round pick. Urlacher is worth more than that to the Bears.

Huh? The Bears already have Urlacher, and if need be Briggs.

It kinda went under the radar that Pisa is comin' back next year also.

Much like Urlacher, Pierce's best days are behind him, so why pay any up front bonus for a non-Cover2 linebacker?

Just thinking of someone they could dangle for trade with a decent WR. Although after some thought, there are a bunch of free agent receivers available.

pierce = done. he was playing like shit before he got hurt. he is a leader-type, but his best days on the field are behind him for sure.

if you have a weapon you need to hide from the cops, or you need an iron-clad alibi, he probably wouldn't be your first choice either.

Urlacher is better than Pierce, especially in the system the Bears run. And getting Piso back is big if he stays healthy, he is very underrated IMHO>

The Bears are pretty stacked at LB - Urlacher, Briggs and Tinoisamoa are the starters (Tinoisamoa will be in a battle), and Hillenmeyer, Roach and Tim Shaw fill out the roster. Everything I read says no Jamar Williams for next season already and the backups have to be on special teams so a guy like Pierce, coming off back surgury, is not likely to end up here, and, in a way, Tinoisamoa is our version of Pierce.

I'd hardly call the Bears "stacked" at linebacker. While Briggs is very good, Urlacher is clearly on the decline, and Tinoisamoa may be as well. Hillenmeyer, Roach and Shaw are just a bunch of guys.

Shaw is a guy you need to have on special teams. He was a monster last year.

I think this is one position where they have at least one Pro Bowl player, maybe another if Urlacher can return at a high level, and while the other spot will be filled by stop gap players, how many teams in the league have a guy as good as Briggs, and then a 2nd guy like Urlacher?

Shaw had a very good season on special teams, and while I agree with you that Tinoisamoa, Hillenmeyer, and Roach are just guys, they at least have plenty of experience at the position and provide depth.

It's just not a position that I'm very concerned about.

Can Urlacher stay healthy? I think he'll be done by week four.

LB's are the easiest position to find these days. Every team has younger, cheaper, athletic guys coming up.

Just ebcause we dont have an up n coming star does not represent the league. Look at Nick Roach and Jamar Williams. Both did show enough for Angelo to focus elsewhere, even though I think they both suck. They are guys who have great games v bad teams.

If either was good enough, Piso would not have a job.

This team needs so much more than LB's
