I fired up the stream this am, and heard McNeil screaming at "you listeners" about the Hawks. Apparently he had gotten some texts or emails that were piling on him for pleasuring himself to the idea of a Stanley Cup, all year, only to have the Hawks choke and go down 2-1 in the first round.
While I know McNeil would claim that "well, it seems you hate me but you're still listening...so I win", I honestly have not heard ANY of this show in weeks/months. So it was funny that just about the exact moment I turned it on he was screaming at his listeners, calling them idiots and bitches (then, dramatically and with no transition, letting it go to the outro bumper to commercial....real radio pro).
Anyone who doesn't hear Mike North when McNeil starts dropping names - how many TVs he has - what sponsors he's currently sucking off - what he had for dinner/who comp'd him a meal or round of golf - stroking himself about how great his awful parody songs are etc, well they just aren't listening. I have no idea if he'll end up like North, ultimately, but man does this guy sound like a blowhard tool.
I was genuinely excited to have him come back to The Score, but either he's really turned into a gigantic twat during his time away OR my memories of him from the early days were imprinted using rose colored glasses. He just sounds like a loud, obnoxious, wannabe know-it-all who has paired himself up with a super annoying, not-so-bright partner who deems playing in a cover band a bigger deal than tending to a weekly baseball show he is supposedly hosting.
Anyway, the Hawks are down 2-1 - it happens. If McNeil can't understand why "some" listeners are ribbing him right now, then he's more thin-skinned and dumber than I thought.
I disagree with this. For me, the only real reason I listen to sports radio is to get myself annoyed. That may sound silly, but... what the fuck, it is silly. Anyway, Mac used to make me furious on the Afternoon Saloon and I hated him and loved listening, but since the move it seems like he's been declawed. Like someone else here said, he did a Score show at ESPN and he does an ESPN show on the Score. Sometimes he just drops back and let's Giggles the Clown drive for long stretches. Maybe he figures a Recession contract is worthy of a Recession effort.
