No. The Cubs season was over weeks ago. spanky has taken more joy in the Sox recent struggles than anything else over the last 2 weeks, thats my point. His team sucks, so lets root for the Twins, Royals, Tigers, etc. Yet its the Sox fans that have some sort of complex according to him.

Oh. All right.
Well, I started watching around the end of July because I wanted to see some decent baseball.

I've been disappointed.

I will use facebook as an example. Not one Cub fan I am friends with has posted anything about the Sox collapse the last couple weeks. Yet almost every day until two weeks ago I was getting updates from Sox fans about how the cubs were doing.

Frank is absolutely right. Watching him piss and moan after every Sox loss like a little girl learning what a period is has been the most entertaining sports event over the past month. Most of that is because August is such a sucky month for sports, but watching Frank make excuses and whine is quite enjoyable.

In fact, this entire Sox season has taken the perfect trajectory for those of us that find Sox fans insufferable. Start shitty to get everyone completely disappointed. Run off an improbable stretch of victories against weak competition, preventing management from trading away old, overvalued parts, and in fact giving up a pitching prospect for a pitcher putting up mediocre numbers in the most pitcher-friendly division in the AL. Then, go back to shitting the bed against both good teams and bad. It's not as fun as watching the Bears win, but it'll do for August.

Come on IB. I don't think that's right. Frank wasn't making excuses or whining about losing any more than a disappointed fan would bitch about losing important games. He doesn't blame the umps or anything other than the players. He's actually been one of the move level headed Sox fans during this time. He knew that shit was fucked up in that second to last Twins series. I didn't see too much meatball there.

  I knew that was coming. That K did not have any bearing on the outcome of the game. In fact, West had a shitty strike zone for both teams. Go back and look at the TWins and Orioles thread you were so active in. Anything else I said about the umpires you care to find?

Care to address anything else Darko point out?

Ok. This to me is more of a "Why the hell would you allow 9 minutes of game to be played?" kind of a thing. It had nothing to do with them costing the game or the series or a loss of any kind. In fact, as a hard core Cubs fan I agree with him. Fuck man you know what the radar looks like. You know if rain is coming in the next ten minutes and you know it's going to last hours, why the hell would you start the game to get thru what 20 pitches? Dumb ass move. And worthy of being questioned.
Please keep searching. I always wanted to be a lawyer. Maybe I can argue his case here.

If you want the full compendium of why it's hilarious to watch Frank piss and moan, we can start with the rose-colored and logic-free defense of everything Sox, starting with Hawk and everything down. Mix in a healthy dose of shadenfreude on his part for anything anti-Cub with an inability to take it himself. When you have someone that clearly gets annoyed when the Sox are doing poorly and people are giving him just as much shit as he has been happy to give out himself, and hell yes, I get a kick out of it, and I don't feel the least bit guilty about it.

He's correct, Joe West is a Grade A jackass. It has nothing to do with his perceived bias against the Sox, West is the type of douchebag umpire that will do anything to get himself into the spotlight, even if he has nothing to do with the play. I seem to recall him calling a balk on someone from third, even when it was the home or first base umpires' call.

1st - Frank is wrong. My #1 joy around here has not been the Sox struggles. It's been watching and listening to the flaming, spinning, pooping, crying train-wreck that is Hawk Harrelson. There's a big difference.

2nd - the give/take about the struggles for either team hasn't changed since I joined this board. It just seems that the fanbase of a certain southside team (both of you) has been way more sensitive to the jabs directed at their team lately. Wonder why that would be.........? :puker:

And you come out the woodwork just as the Sox start struggling. There are many others (who are Cubs fans) that flip shit back and forth year round. Sox skid, you start posting. Even the legit things I post, you dismiss.

I suppose given all that, you will make a good lawer. Which is not necessarily a good thing.

I wasn't on the board when the Sox were doing well, for reasons entirely unrelated to the White Sox.

Learn to construct a sentence properly. Throwing in words like compendium and shadenfreude, doesn't make you seem smarter. It only makes you look like someone TRYING too hard to seem smart. But when you can't read a chart and think it shows Floyd and Danks as being overpaid and A.J. being underpaid....it really ruins any facade you are trying to create.

It's almost too bad that the Sox are fading so quickly now. At this rate, most Sox fans will give up on the season (if they have not already)very soon. It would have been more enjoyable to see the hope hold out a bit longer, so the anguish in the end would be greater.

That's right. The whole world isn't Cub fans, Steve. Most people are too realistic to "hope" that a ballclub that develops about one decent player every twenty years suddenly has an entire team of superstars in its minor league system. Try to step outside your narrow Cub fan perspective.

I agree that it may be time to start phasing out Hawk. It's unfortunate because I absolutely love him as an announcer but all good things must come to an end.

Let him do about 50% of the games next year and let a third person come into the booth and alternate between the three. Doesn't Steve Stone take a mid season vacation anyways?

I'm not sure the Cubs have an entire team of guys in the minor leagues that is capable of playing at the big league level sucessfully, much less a team of superstars. However, in recent years, the Cubs have done a reasonably good job of developing talent. That gives some hope for the future. But I had NO hope the Cubs were going to contend this season. There was no angst ridden period for me. I expected them to finish no better that 3rd-4th.

ONE decent player every 20 years?? Theriot was/is a decent player. Casey McGahee (now doing very well with the Brewers) is better than just a decent player (.287 20 82) Colvin is a decent player with the potential to be better than average. Soto was the rookie of the year in 2008 and the All-Sar game's starting catcher. After a disappointing 2009, he's having a decent season. Starlin Castro is already well past decent, even though he's the youngest player in the major leagues.
