High school kids aren't desperate about baseball.

Big knock by Rios there. Pierre's threat to steal probably had a lot to do with the fastball he got and he didn't miss it. I still think assuming that huge contract was a mistake, but he's having a real nice year.

If the Sox go on to lose this game (losing 5-2 now in the top of the 5th), they will be 14-17 in their last 31 games. Meanwhile, the Twins have gone 32-11 in their last 43.

I don't get the random, unequal comparison... their last 43 games, last 31 games. Poor analysis. Might as well say the Twins are 83-57 in their last 140 games and the Sox are 77-62 in their last 139. Its just as informative and obvious to anyone that can read.

Ok. Divisional road games played north of the Mason-Dixon line?

I only count 13 afternoon road games since then. Try again, whitey.

Basically the Sox were 5-11 from Aug 6 - 22 and the Twins were 11-4. That's essentially the difference in the standings. Since then the Twins are 11-5 and the Sox are 10-5. The Sox fucked it up in just over 2 weeks in August...now they have just over 3 weeks in September to fix it.

Yeah. It was terrible trouble to look to my right and take a peak at the schedule hanging on my wall.

Looks like they are putting themselves in a fix (dropping another series to the Tigers and losing their 3rd straight game) to drop to 6 games back...rather than actually fixing anything.

That's where the whole 3 weeks part comes in to play there...
You see, the Sox can't make up a 6 game deficit in 1 day. A baseball season contains 162 regular season games and Sox need to win more games than the Twins over those 162 games to win the division. They have 3 weeks to accomplish that.

Ozzie's White Sox have just 3 outs to work with going to the 9th...They've suddenly stopped hitting. Shades of April? I think so...

("Price is Right" losing horn honking) It's over...The Tigers finish off the White Sox 6-3 in Detroit. The White Sox are now 6 games behind the Twins in the A.L. Central.

At this time next week (well, at night after the game is over anyway) Sox will be 2 games behind the Twins.

Hawk can not be taking this well. If he were there to will the ball out of the park and keep the umpires in check it would have been a far different story.

When the White Sox host the Twins next Tuesday-Thursday at "The Cell", Ron Gardenhire and the Twins might be getting the champagne iced and ready to celebrate the A.L. Central title.

Todays game looks good for the Sox, with Danks facing Bonderman. However, Danks is working on just 3 days rest, so he may not go deep into the game. The bullpen will have to be effective. But on Thursday its Porcello VS Floyd and thats not a slam dunk. Porcello went 7 inning vs the Sox in his outing on Aug 14th and gave up just 2 runs. He has also gone 7 innings in each of his last 3 starts and won them all.

Well, now Porcello has gone 7 or more innings in each of his last 4 starts and won them all. :!:

Rick Porcello was 0-4 lifetime vs. the White Sox going in. Today, the Sox made him look like Cy Young.

In other news, the Twins will probably still wet the bed in the playoffs (like usual) and you're still a dumbass.

Other than C.C. Sabathia & possibly a healthy Andy Pettitte, I actually give the Twins a chance to knock off the World Champions from the Bronx if that matchup comes to fruition...Seriously.

Pettitte is a huge key. Sabathia is better than anyone the Twins can trot out there. But after Sabathia, their starting pitching is not that great. Pettitte does have a great playoff history though. If pettitte is not 100% though, I think the Twins can beat them.

Do you have ANY confidence in Javy Vazquez, A.J. Burnett, Phil Hughes or even this Ivan Nova guy the White Sox couldn't beat? I don't!

I think they are all very beatable. I would have much more confidence in Liriano, Duensing and Pavano that any of those guys. Scott Baker had wins in each of his last 5 decisions prior to his injury and if he's back on track, I like him over Burnett and maybe Vasquez too.

are you forgetting this isn't a pitcher vs. pitcher contest? i mean...the Twins offense, while good, would still be likely missing morneau. Dunesing and Pavano will have to face A-Rod, Jeter, Texiera, Cano, etc. etc. You can reasonably debate the starting pitchers but the fact is the Twins pitching staff will be facing a far more formidable offense than the Yankees pitchers will be vs. the Twins offense.
