The rays are showing their inner 2008 Cub right now. Getting smoked at home in 2 games while scoring an entire 1 run.

my rangers are looking good... i forgot that CJ wilson is actually a quality starter. after him.... shit. who's ready for the tommy hunter experience? that's my guess. if the rangers win the world series look forward to my ron washington's snuffbox mult.

Dig the old breed.

I hope that you are old enough to have seen what I consider to have been a wonderful outfield trio: Ellis Valentine, Warren Cromartie and Andre Dawson.

It was not prudent to attempt to take an extra base on Ellis Valentine's arm!

actually, i've only just turned 30 years old... i didn't give a shit about baseball until the 2001 season when an old childhood friend who is now professor of 500 level economics at the university of kentucky (aka the only dude who beat me on the iowa tests, psats, sats/acts etc) needed more people for a fantasy baseball league at mlb.com. he assured me that i'm clever enough to figure it out and do moderately well.... welp, i look for any chance to kick this dude's ass at anything (nba jam, madden, any baseball sim... the fact i've never fucked a string of asian heifers) and fantasy baseball seemed apropos. so in a 10 team league i had a veritable all-star team and one of my guys was this "vladimir guerrero" cat and i remember seeing him on an ESPN game on something like july 4, 2001 and once i saw the dude bat i was like "game over. this is my dude this is my team etc" and as i was in it to win it, i got more and more into baseball (i remember as i won the league in my first year playing i was chided with "anyone can watch baseball tonight and think they know the game") then i won the next year even tho this was pre-innings-limits on yahoo and the commish bumrushed me with a "starting 5 of today's starting pitchers" rush and i won that too. i was kicked out of the league after i told the commish off cuz that strategy was complete and utter horseshit, trying to make it that having quality SPs was a liability...

anywho, i began to learn up on expos lore and after awhile 1994 became a sore spot for me (at the time i was obviously a fairweather whitesox fan but even i knew 94 was fated to be an expos/whitesox worldseries) and as i learned the tragic backstory of the franchise, it jsut fit... plus i could never figure out just wtf the logo was and in little league i played on the expos and then the angels, so it seemed to mirror vlad... hell my most badass little league moment was that i was the chunky centerfielder and some asshat hit a ball over my head and went for the HR on me. i saw the cutoff man waving at me but FUCK THAT this fucker wanted a homerun on me... i put everything i had into the throw and from deep deep center one hopped it to the plate in time for the catcher to apply a tag to get the guy out. i'll always remember as i got back to the bench the coach said "schaefer, that was one of the most badass plays i've seen in 5 years of coaching little league... do it again and i'll bench your ass"

go figure the expos/angels RF with the most badass arm in the game would grow to become my favorite player. even tho he just got clowned to go for 0-4 on the day. vlad ain't up there to take a walk, that's for sure. oh i also ended the season once with a on-me stolen base attempt... vlad's a shit baserunner, so maybe in him i saw a bit of myself... an eyes to toes "fuck it i can hit that" contact hitter who barely struck out and had a badass, if not completely accurate, arm when the situation warranted.

pardon the liberties on the little league career, but i'm getting in a couple'a A:Ms b4 my AA meeting.... fuckin state of illinois and cults of sobriety, eh? =D

Am I the only one that hears Ron Darling and thinks it's Rudy Gulliani? With a little suspension of disbelief, it gives it an odd twist.

Gotta love Dick Stockton plugging the Conan show.

they're doing their part to kill his ratings before the show even gets started.

Remember the Frank TV. Just like the Alamo and with the same fate.

Isn't Conan going head-to-head vs the Daily Show/Colbert Report? That doesn't sound like a good idea.

the bad idea would be going to TBS, who's definition of funny is decidedly out of whack. If TBS thinks the hardcore Conan fans will watch their other shows, they're deluded. If they think they're going to draw a casual fan to Conan's show, and keep that fan, they're deluded. And I think Conan's deluded for not holding out for a network gig or better yet, going to a cable channel more in line with his decidedly funny brand of humor.

all is looking good for my rangers. they've got two shots to win it at home and i dunno if they'd get desperate and rush out cliff lee on three days rest for game 4, but you figure the inexplicably victorious tommy hunter and his cahill-like K rate will be in there... then... shit they demoted SCOTT FELD-MAN to the bullpen, right?

if their offense can continue to click and lee and wilson can be a 1-2 punch they've got a shot. nobody in teh american league looks worldbeating thus far

That's a hell of an offensive team. I'd love to see their pitching hold up and take down the Rays and Yankees.

But the Yankee offense is pretty good too.

Well, yeah. And you have to face Sabathia and Pettitte twice.

Sabathia was less than impressive in his first start.

He's real up and down in the playoffs.

Pettite is money. (and a wuss)

While Tim Lincecum struck out 14 Braves en route to his Giants taking Game 1 of the NLDS at AT&T Park late last night, Buster Posey got a huge break. The San Francisco catcher was clearly out when the umps called him safe stealing second in the 4th inning. There are MLB talking heads nationwide that are screaming for expanded Instant Replay, and plays like that should get that idiot for an MLB "Commissioner" in Allan H. Selig to wake up, smell the coffee and get it through his thick skull that the time has come to expand it!

Hendry would love to have him back at a reasonable price so he can hit into double plays and strike out in the ninth inning.

Who is that old whore twirling the towel around after each pitch. She should be thrown out of the game and then drug out into the street and shot.
