Picked up 4 packs of Deth's Tar and Cafe Deth by Revolution Friday night...now that we're hitting cooler weather, I'm gearing up for bourbon barrel beers.

Still working my way through a 6th barrel of Longsnapper in my kegerator.

So there is a place I found near me called Whole Foods and they had the Blue Moon Beer.

I went out tonight to get more but they ran out. They had Hoegaarden which is the European original but I saw another beer besides it which was more expensive called Weihenstephaner hefe weissbier.

It looked like the same type of white beer but it's so much smoother. I really like it. It does not have that bite blue moon or Hoegaarden has.

Anyone here have this before? I looked on the internet and it says it's a wheat beer where blue boom is a white beer.

Hoegaarden is superior to Blue Moon in every facet. That is actually the beer that they copied to make Blue Moon before Miller-Coors bought them. That said, I'm not a fan...it's my wife's favorite beer, though (Hoegaarden).

Blue Moon is garbage.

Have you ever tried anything by Four Quarters? I've known about them for a few years, but only tried some of their beer recently.

I was very impressed. Based upon my limited sampling, I'd say they are a little better than Foam in the NE IPA category. We'll see if this opinion holds up as I work my way through their offerings.

Negative. I’ll request some on my next shipment from New Hampshire.

I've been drinking some Sloop Aluminum Army NEIPA this weekend.

It's solid though somewhat disappointing compared to many other stellar IPAs I've had from them.

If you see this one on the shelves, steer clear. It's not representative of Sloop's overall body of work.

Made it five months without alcohol and finally broke down this weekend. Wife bought some Fistmas. Not the best, not the worst.

RIP Three Floyds Brew Pub. Sad to see one of the old money titans close up shop.

Quote:
Three Floyds reportedly closes brewpub — this time for good — due to COVID-19 pandemic

JOSH NOEL DECEMBER 16, 2020

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Three Floyds Brewing said it would close its brewpub and taproom indefinitely due to the virus. Indefinitely has become forever, according to the Times of Northwest Indiana.

The newspaper reported Wednesday afternoon that the iconic northwest Indiana brewery has informed investors that its brewpub, which operated a full kitchen and poured a broad array of Three Floyds beers, will not reopen after being closed for seven months.

“As many of you know, this pandemic has not been kind to the restaurant industry, and we are no exception,” Three Floyds wrote in a letter to investors, according to the Times. “As of December 1, 2020, we have decided to permanently close 3 Floyds Brewpub. This decision was not easy for us, but at the end of the day, the safety of our customers and staff will always be our top priority.”

The initial decision to close indefinitely in late May bucked early conventional wisdom about operating during the pandemic; at the time, Indiana was trying to get bars and restaurants open again. Yet Floyd said — accurately, it turned out, based on the pandemic’s unrelenting spread — that he didn’t believe reopening was safe.

The pub, which could accommodate 70 people in about 2,000 square feet, would not reopen “until it’s safe to operate again,” Floyd said at the time, expressing concern for both customers and employees.

In an era where breweries make vast profits by selling beer directly to customers, odds would seem good that Three Floyds will eventually open another version of a taproom at its Munster brewery.

Known for its Alpha King and Zombie Dust pale ales, Gumballhead wheat ale, Dark Lord imperial stout and an early embrace of aggressively using hops, Three Floyds has been one of the nation’s most influential craft breweries since launching in 1996.

won't they still be brewing their beer for sale in stores? So they'll still be open, just operating differently

It will be sad to see the brewpub go. Great food there, but man there were some miserable assholes working in the pub. They made it seem like Kuma's rolled out the red carpet for all their customers.

I'm sure many of the other brewery pubs will go away. The money these places generate is probably nothing compared to beer sale revenue. Why even bother with the hassle?

I was going to pick up some of this this weekend as well as Shiner's Christmas Ale. Any other suggestions out there for a seasonal?

I read Revolution has closed too ("temporarily"). I don't see why they would come back either.

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas beers, but Fistmas is always solid for me.

My wife grabbed me the Super Hoppy Holidays Variety Pack

Juicy Tree: ABV: 10.1% – IBU: 80

Juicy Tree is an experimental India Pale Ale made with blue spruce tips, juniper berries, and cranberries. Big aromatics of piney evergreen and sweet berries tingle the senses. After some slightly tart and tangy flavors up front, a harmonious balance between pleasant fruit sweetness and bitter pine is reached. The finish is laced with a resiny stickiness that flows naturally into a lasting bitterness.

NEW: Double Psychedelic Cat Grass—ABV: 9.7% – IBU: 75

Your favorite triple dry hopped IPA, but twice as crazy. That’s right—this brand new offering has the tropical fruit and bitterness you love from the OG PCG and is accompanied by a boozy maltiness you’d expect from a double IPA, balancing the bitter hop profile and doubling your pleasure.

Slurm Lord: ABV: 7.3% – IBU: 70

Slurm Lord is a double New England style India Pale Ale brewed with oats and a blend of Citra, Azacca, Amarillo, El Dorado, and Mosaic hops. Slurm Lord employs the largest dry hop to date in SBC history! Deep orange in color with a permanent haze and a minimal head, a glass of Slurm Lord resembles a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Aromas of dank passion fruit, mango, and pineapple are accompanied by bold flavors of citrus. This medium-bodied India Pale Ale is incredibly juicy from start to finish. A final sip leads into a slight, warming bitterness.

Yoda’s Blend: ABV: 8.6% – IBU 73

Yoda’s Blend 2020 is an IPA made with a complex blend of hops never to be replicated again. Copper in color, this beer has currant, spruce/pine and tropical notes in the aroma and flavor. Using The Force, our brewers have concocted an out of this world brew only to be seen in the 2020 Super Hoppy Holidays Variety Pack.

The Liberator: ABV: 8.0% – IBU: 95

The Liberator was made as a 30th birthday gift to Joe Short. As a double IPA, this beast employs a sizable malt bill, but it is the crazy amount of hops added to the boil every 4 minutes, for 120 minutes, that really make this beer special. Fruity, floral, and piney hop flavors penetrate throughout the caramelized malt profile. The Liberator is a well-balanced, full-bodied brew that has a bitter finish due to the post fermentation addition of lemon and orange zest. The name, The Liberator, came from Joe’s name for the Short’s employees who carry out our company’s mission statement as “Beer Liberators”, freeing the masses from their misconceptions surrounding beer.

Batch 10,000: ABV: 13.2% – IBU: 50

Batch 10,000 is a Double Brut IPA with mango and black currant celebrating the 10,000th batch brewed at Short’s. Powerful flavors of mango fruitiness and black currant tartness blend with alcohol notes from the high ABV. A huge amount of hops contributes to a palate coating body that smooths as you enjoy more. The burnt orange color is indicative of the warming finish.

“As always, we can’t make everyone happy with every pack we put out, but we know we’re going to make many, many people out there in the Short’s Brewniverse very, very happy this year.” Newman-Bale concluded.

The Super Hoppy Holiday variety pack will be available starting in early November in Meijer stores across the midwest (Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin) and in retailers across Short’s distribution footprint—including Colorado. This is a super limited release, so if you see some, you better get it.

So far, I've had the Yoda's Blend...very smooth and not crazy bitter for a pretty hoppy beer. Didn't go down like it was 8+% either...could get dangerous.

I went to the Kenosha Piggly Wiggly today because it's the only store I can find my favorite deli ham. For some unknown reason, they had 6 bottle packs of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for $4.99. They also had 4 16oz. can packs of Toppling Goliath (Iowa) Pseudo Sue (IPA) and King Sue (DIPA) for $4.99 when the usual price was $9.99 per 4 pack. What was I supposed to do? I got nothing else to look forward to. I may have to go back tomorrow.......

I didn't check the dates at the store but it did occur to me when I brought them home. The 2 Sierras I've had were 10/30/20. They're in brown bottles and they taste normal. The one King Sue can I had had 2/26/21 stamped on the bottom. They were all in the cooler, not collecting dust in some corner of the liquor department. Either way, Miller High Life gets a little boring, so for those prices, I just said fuck it.

So I went back to Pig in Kenosha today hoping to score some more Toppling Goliath. Nope. Gone. But they did have 12oz canned 6 packs of Sierra Nevada Fantastic Haze for $4.99. 9% ABV. I'm about to crack my first one. Wish me luck.

Almost anything by Sierra Nevada is a good drink

Something seems different about the Pale Ale. I can't put my finger on it. Didn't stop me from getting 2 more 6 packs of it in bottles today. $4.99.

I'm not big on Sierra Nevada, but did have the Fantastic Haze while at Ron's Place....it exceeded expectations.
Toppling Goliath is quite delicious, as well.

9.99 for King Sue would be a great deal in New England. It's usually about 15.99/4 pack in these parts.

Costco has a Sierra Nevada 24 12 oz can mixed pack with 12 Hazy Little Thing, 6 Wild Little Thing (Sour IPA) and 6 Fantastic Haze (DIPA) for $28. It's a nice deal for those who are over the $15.99+ for 4 16oz cans. Gets you 80% of the pricey beers at less than 50% of the cost
