They could have fixed that, it was something that he claimed he was injured and they didn't quite see it that way and thought he was sitting out for a new contract. They were ready to play Gary and the other Smith was cheaper.

Fixing it..moving numbers around, deferring bonuses etc only works for a little while. The Bears did the same thing with Mack and then last year his salary was absurd.

It is why drafting players like Gary is so important, get the best out of them and let someone else pay. Rodgers is the only contract that will affect them long term and yes that can definitely be an issue potentially.
