I mean, there are a lot of restaurants that do just order from Sysco, and Friday's/Chili's/Applebee's is all just frozen slop, but I'm sure there are still some places that are different.

Of course, but they are pretty few and far between these days. I ate at Manny’s a couple weeks ago when I was in the city and it felt like the same as it always has…now it also ran me thirty bucks.

They're expensive but pretty good. I don't know how the people that work there keep up with the secret menu and a celebrity sandwich here and there.

Four kinder? One of the best sandwiches I've ever had but even if it were for two people it'd be two expensive sandwiches.

If you can't eat something without smothering it in condiments, you shouldn't be eating it in the first place.

That’s kind of where I land.

This isn’t for most people but I don’t really put wet ingredients on a cold cut sandwich. No condiments, no oil, etc.

Scott Walker ate a plain ham and American cheese on white bread sandwich for lunch every single day.

A little bit of sub dressing is good. Even if I'm just making a little panini at home I'll use it sparingly, but it's the giardiniera relish that I can't resist.

Almost every sandwich should have a condiment. It makes it so much better.

Early in the 2016 campaign, Trump went to Wisconsin and said "if Scott Walker is so great, why does this state suck so much?" He ended Walker's career and won the state twice. Underrated among the funniest things Trump ever did.

They didn’t lose much a couple of weeks ago.

It’s all the same shit. Whatever slop Sysco or US Foods drops off that day is what you get, this goes for your your hyper local 4.8 stars on Google “oh man you just gotta try it” right down your dingy shithole Subway and everything in between.

A few exceptions, sure…but genuinely you’re just paying to not have to do it yourself and not clean up.

That’s what’s so funny about Brick saying Jersey Mikes is the best thing you’ll find in Peoria. Lmao, it’s the same food as in Chicago! Sysco isn’t prioritizing better food anywhere, it’s all just lowest bidder junk. Everything after that is branding and packaging.

That's just incorrect. A place like, say, Bari, makes their own sausage, meatballs, giardinara, sweet peppers, etc. The meat they use is right there for you to see in the They are hardly alone on the local 4.8 stars list in chicago that you reference. I can even get Bari, JP Grazianos, Fontanos, D'Amatos, etc. delivered to the office downtown.

Trito's?

Heck now you have me wondering, based on this menu, not sure if they delivered?

Regardless I have enjoyed this walk down memory lane.

What I say applies to the vast majority of restaurants. The fact that there are a few exceptions, and I’m not even sure everything you list here is one of those exceptions anymore, doesn’t invalidate it all.

There is a place off 355 and maple, Mojos, that bills itself as Philly east coasty. People say its great and have had it as a catered platter thing, not the cheesesteak though. It's expensive but if it's your thing and are nearby maybe give it a try.

Monti's in Lincoln Square is supposed to be the most authentic. It's excellent. Philly's Best has a few locations. It's pretty good.

Potbelly's is the best out of the bunch.

Went there last night and had the Turkey Avo. Delicious even though it's pricey.

Monti's is pretty good. They use real Amoroso's rolls which makes the sandwich authentic.

The thing with most of these regional sandwiches is that you can only get the right bread in the place where the sandwich originates. I've seen a lot of things called muffalettas in and around Chicago and some of them were pretty good, but none of them used the correct bread. And I don't know if anyone even tries to make beef on weck outside of Buffalo.

Monti’s and Mojo’s are both pretty decent IMO.

I went through many decades thinking tubolard was just a word (like Tobleron)...not a "tub of lard"...just blew off the fact that "big, fat" often preceded the phrase
